Announcing my first book of poetry – plus the WriteNow!@King experience

At the beginning of April, my poetry manuscript, When the Earth , was accepted for publication. The night I found out, my husband poured me a scotch and I was so calm. I expected to stay calm, but by the next morning, the excitement was intense. Nerve-wracking and thrilling.    My poetry editor explained that it's not too late to add some additional poems to the manuscript - but I have a fairly small window. My book is already available for preorder!  In the midst of all this, I had my first speaking engagement coming up at WriteNow!@King – the writers’ group that meets at the King City Library. It took a lot more time to plan the talk than I imagined  –  from handouts to researching hot leads. I did get a bit side-tracked in my research, but it was worth it. Speaking Engagement at WriteNow!@King

I'm going to be speaking to the fine writers' group, WriteNow!@King, in King City . In order to prepare, I've been researching resources for writers  –  what a treat! I never seem to make time for researching all the opportunities for writers to get connected with their readers. I'm happily overwhelmed by the abundance of free services out there  –  from Goodreads and shelfari to the good old fashioned Writer's Market. It's good to get reacquainted with some of these resources and expand my knowledge of who's who in the publishing industry. I will be talking about Quattro Books and why the novella is the perfect form for writers and readers. I'll also be talking about Existere   –  the literary journal  –  and how my work as a poetry and fiction editor there has expanded my knowledge and experience as a writer. Can't wait!
